I am a psychotherapist who provides counseling services for individuals of all ages, as well as for couples and families. I see people currently in and around the Topeka area, including Lawrence.
I absolutely love my job, my chosen profession, and I have many years of practice in building meaningful connections with people in order to help them lighten their emotional burdens and strive to reach their therapeutic goals.
I use a mindfulness based approach to treating anxiety, depression, and other emotional health problems in adults and younger people. I also employ EMDR and other proven methods in treating trauma related problems.
I am a Licensed Masters Level Social Worker (LMSW). I work specifically with adolescents over the age of 11, and adults. I practice various
therapeutic methods, depending of course on the needs of each client. Using a strengths and mindfulness based approach to psychotherapy, I draw upon my knowledge of, and training in, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy to help clients reach their goals.
I prefer to shine a light on each client’s abilities, knowledge, support systems and networks from the start of the first session, until the end of the collaborative and therapeutic journey. By placing a premium on the individuality of each person I see, my goal is to cultivate an atmosphere of trust and empowerment within the therapeutic space. In this type of space, growth and openness can become the norm.
I also have 16 years of case management and advocacy experience. I have worked for two years as a mental health interventionist and middle school social worker. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma related problems (including PTSD), ADHD, girief, and adjustment disorders.
I received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Washburn University.
Welcome! I am passionate about helping people navigate the internal world of their experiences so they may heal and grow. Whether you are experiencing new challenges in life, or taking on deeper rooted issues, traditional talk therapy can help you gain and cultivate the awareness, skills, and confidence you may be needing to be healthier and happier. Over the past 10 years, I have focussed my education and work experience on helping others, and in obtaining the training and qualifications needed to provide psychotherapy. I have experience in various settings working with people, including inpatient crisis work with children, veterans, and elderly adults.
Philosophically, my perspective could be termed eclectic. I rely on an evidenced-based, authentic, and collaborative therapeutic approach to tailor my style and strategy to each client's individual needs. Overall, my work is empathetic and trauma informed. I specialize in general assessment, work with groups, substance use, and PTSD. I also have experience working with hording, issues relating to compulsivity, and personality disorders.
